Maipo Andes Antiyal Carmenere Cabernet Syrah
Winery information: Alvaro Espinoza is a Chilean legend. He and his wife Marina run the first Boutique /Garage winery in Chile. They are the first to be certified Biodynamic and they have all sorts of wildlife in the vineyards including Llamas.
They have just built a stunning new winery in the Maipo Alto. Antiyal Vineyards are located in the Maipo Valley, in three different locations, in Huelquen at the foothills of the Alto Maipo, another property in El Escorial and the third property in Isla de Maipo. They grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere Syrah and Petit Verdot. The three vineyards are small, completing 8 has of vineyards in total, allowing a fine work in the vines.
Viticulture: Antiyal vineyards are part of small farms, that are worked under sustainable practices, with a fine care of the vines that you can only get in a garden size viticulture.
Vinification: The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were harvested fully ripened in April, the Syrah the first week of May and the Carmenere during the second week of May. Hand harvested and selected before the crushing, processed in a small scale (4 to 5 tons per day). Fermentation followed in small stainless steel vats with wild native yeasts, conduced at 26 to 28 ºC, with softs pumping overs and a long maceration of an average of 26 days in total before pressing. The wine is racked to French barrels 80% new and 20% 1 year old to make the malolactic fermentation and ageing. After one year in French barrels the wine is bottled, and aged 6 months in the cellar prior to release.
Tasting Note: Shows a deep dark colour, with intense aromas of berries, dark fruit, earthy and minerals notes giving clean expression and character. The character of the wood is well integrated to the wine. In the palate the wines has good concentration, with volume and body, well balanced and ripe soft tannins in the finish.
