Kevin's comments: Enjoyable with fish dishes, clean tasting with crisp acidity.
Chateau Tasting Notes
CHEREAU CARRE, MUSCADET
The Muscadet region extends mainly South East of Nantes near the mouth of the river Loire. The most significant and varied appellation by far, representing four in every five bottles is Muscadet de Sevre et Maine, named after two small rivers which flow through, this the most monocultural part of the Pays Nantais, South and East of the City of Nantes. Indeed more Muscadet de Sevre et Maine is produced every year than any other Loire appellation.
The House of Chereau Carre occupies the most privileged position in the Nantes region. The vines cover 267 acres of the highest quality soil making it the largest producer of Muscadet and Gros Plant.
Grapes: 100% Muscadet also known as Melon de Bourgogne
Wine Making: Traditionally aged as a white dry wine. It is not a "sur lie" wine but is blended before being bottled. The Muscadet Savre et Maine CHEREAU CARRE is just racked once before bottling so that the freshness can be kept.
Muscadet Savre et Maine CHEREAU CARRE is in a Muscadet bottle in order to make it different from a generic Muscadet.
Soil: The metamorphic soil is made of schist and gives the wines specific characteristics because of its mineral taste.
Tasting: This Muscadet is dry and fruity, typical of a Muscadet Savre et Maine. It has to be drunk young within the three years of bottling.
It is an aperitif wine "par excellence". It is also appreciated with starters, seafood and fish.
