Chateau Tasting Notes
CHARDONNAY DES DOMAINE POURTHIE VIN DE PAYS D'OC
Domaine de Pourthie is an estate of 60 hectares, situated near Agde, a few kilometres from the Mediterranean. It is now in the hands of the fourth generation of the Pourthié family. The vineyards are located on a ridge formed during the Ice Age, where the soils are gravelly clay and limestone. The Mediterranean warmth and sea breezes combined with the terroir, help to ripen the grapes harmoniously and maximise their aromas. The winery has recently been updated with modern equipment, leading to more sophisticated methods of vinification. The wines are classically styled Languedoc wines.
Grapes: 100% Estate grown Chardonnay Soil: Gravelly clay- limestone
Vinification: The grapes are harvested at night, so ensure they remain cool and retain their freshness. After a skin-contact maceration, the grapes are pressed and fermentation takes place in a temperature controlled vat below 15°C. The malolactic fermentation is prevented, then the wineis aged on its fine lees for two months.
Taste: A dry wine with an elegant hint of butteriness on the nose, refreshing green fruits, combined with subtle oakon the palate and a lively finish.
Serve: Chilled, either on its own or as an excellent accompaniment to poultry and fish dishes.
