UMBERTO CESARI, EMILIA ROMAGNA
For Umberto Cesari, producing good wine is a family tradition with deep roots in this area of Romagna. It is here that Umberto and his wife Giuliana chose to start their company in 1965 by buying 20hectares of land in the hills between 200 and 800 metres above sea level which extend from the Via Emilia towards the Apennine Mountains and the border of Tuscany. From then on, he has continually expanded and increased the quality of his wines. Today the Company owns 90 hectares divided into distinct vineyards; La Casetta, Parolino, Cą Grande and Laurento.
LIANO SANGIOVESE & CABERNET SAUVIGNON
Grapes: From a careful selection of 70% Sangiovese and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon estate grown grapes.
Note: This wine is named after the small and picturesque hamlet Liano on the hills above Castel San Pietro in Emilia Romagna
Winemaking: The grapes are de-stemmed and pressed . Fermentation takes place in specially designed tanks where the cap is kept constantly submerged. The wine is then racked off into 60HL wooden barrels for at least 6 months and then into 7.5HL barrels where it is aged for a further year. The wine is then refined in bottle for a further 6 months prior to release.
Colour: Ruby red with pomegranate tinges.
Serve: At 16C with red meats, grilled duck?s breast, lamb and game.
Taste: A complex and lovely aroma of ripe fruit and spices with a hint of vanilla. In the mouth the wine is intense and well-structured with integrated tannins.
