Dinari del Duca Syrah, Duca di Castelmonte
Winery information: The Duca di Castelmonte label is given to the still wines of the Carlo Pellegrino, the world-famous Sicilian Marsala producer. In the 1970’s the company was the first to market a range of wines produced from native grape varietals and they have continued to seek the individualism and character of the true wines of Sicily. This strategy is now paying dividends, as customers look to discover more of the indigenous varietals of Italy. What those customers are also finding is that Sicilian wines offer fantastic value for money.
Viticulture: trellis
Vinification: Long maceration. Temperature controlled fermentation with selected yeasts. Aged for 6 months part in Allier and Limousin barriques, part in 100H oak barrels and balance in stainless steel tanks. The cuvees are then blended and spend 6 months in bottle prior to release.
Tasting Note: Warm character with the earthy, spicy notes typical of this variety. The flavour is well sustained with balanced, mellow tannins on the finish.
Every day serving suggestion: At room temperature with roast and grilled red meats and game.
