Kevin's comments: Lemon and grapefruit combined with some minerality; good concentration and weight through to a clean, dry finish. Very stylish.
Chateau Tasting Notes
D'ANTICHE TERRE, CAMPANIA, AZIENDA AGRICOLA VEGA
The Irpinia high vineyards of Avellino's wooded Irpinia hills lie north and east of the town of Avellino in central Campania where the soil is of volcanic origin. Sharp variations in day/night temperatures contribute to full aromas in white wines and rich, complex bouquet in Taurasi.
D'Antiche Terre, a family owned winery, started producing wine in 1989. The Estate covers 40 hectares of vineyards situated in prime locations in Irpinia. Careful management in the vineyards combined with great enthusiasm and expertise for producing high quality wines have placed D'Antiche Terre amongst top producers .
Note: Greco di Tufo from which the wine of the same name is made, is the oldest variety of Avellino area. It was imported from Greece in the 1st century B.C. The refined personality of the wine is in sharp contrast with the wild nature of the Irpinian hills where it is made.
Grapes: 95% Greco and 5% Coda di Volpe
Location: From hillside vineyards around the town of Tufo near Avellino.
Vinification: In temperature controlled tanks followed by 3 months ageing in bottle prior to release.
Serve: Chilled as an aperitif or to accompany hors oeuvres, fish dishes in white sauces and veal.
Colour: Light straw
Taste: A fine, dry white wine with a crisp fruit flavour that finishes with a suggestion of toasted almonds on the nose and in the mouth.
