Chateau Tasting Notes

MICHELE CHIARLO - PIEMONTE

Michele Chiarlo was born in the Monferrato region of Piemonte where his family has grown grapes for over 5 generations. In 1956 he decided to start a small winery in Calamandrana, a small village nestled in some of Monferrato's finest hillside vineyards. Over the last 30 years Michele Chiarlo has been patiently selecting vineyards with soils and exposures that give consistently high quality. The vineyard practices (severe pruning, cluster thinning to limit the crop, use of organic fertilisers and spraying only the traditional Bordeaux mixture) also reflect the Chiarlo philosophy of quality. Grapes produced in this way cost a lot more, but that is what it takes to grow the best. When his wines are tasted, we think you will understand why Chiarlo goes to such great lengths.

Chiarlo runs 3 wineries where tradition and modern techniques go hand in hand. The original winery in Calamandrana is also the home to the winery headquarters and the bottling plant. Michele Chiarlo has been able to convey his quality belief to his sons and staff. It is a guarantee that the winery will continue along this path in the years to come!
