Easthope Sauvignon The Gatecrasher
Winery information: Rod Easthope is the Senior Winemaker at Craggy Range and this is his own personal project. His aim is to create more European styled wines, that compete with the very best French wines.
Viticulture: Grapes were hand picked from Easthope's vineyard in the Dartmoor Valley, Hawkes Bay and whole bunch pressed. Dartmoor Valley is located along the Tutaekuri River in the north of Hawkes Bay where they have some of the regions highest growing season temperatures.
Vinification: Fermented oxidatively then placed in old oak barriques with natural yeasts where it underwent malo-lactic fermentation for several months.
Tasting Note: Goosberry and flint on the nose. Flavours of almonds, citrus and sage on the palate. Loads of minerality with excellent weight on the palate and a crisp, lingering finish.
Every day serving suggestion: Seafood, poultry, cheese - sharp cheddar, cheshire, brie.
