Kevin's tasting notes
Without a doubt the best Primitivo I have ever tasted, the complexity and silky tannins have you begging for more to be poured! The bottle itself weights a ton and the presentation screams expensive but worth every penny.
Lucarelli Old Vines Primitivo di Manduria Pazzia
Winery information: The "Terre di Sava" project started in 2008 from a challenge that was simple and complex at the same time; that of expressing a combination of factors concerning the climate, the different soil types, the grapes and the human influence, a set of elements that contributed to making Sava a unique territory in the world atlas of vine-growing. In the Salentine countryside, around Sava, you can find the widest and richest heritage of "Primitivo" bush vines in the world. Some of these vines are over 100 hundred years old. All of Terre di Sava wines reflect the vitality of the area and the apogee of these is the ravishing Pazzia, produced in small quantities from old bush vines.
Viticulture: Bush vine
Vinification: The grapes were hand harvested in small baskets and delivered to the winery. Maceration lasted 18 days for 80% of the mass and 25% days for the remaining 20%. Temperature controlled alcoholic fermentation at 24-26C in stainless steel tanks with selected yeasts. Aged for a minimum of 6 months in French oak barriques followed by 12 months in bottle prior to release.
Tasting Note: A deep and complex nose with hints of prunes, cherry jam, spice and tobacco. Full bodied with fine tannins and notes of cocoa, coffee and vanilla on the long and savoury finish.
Every day serving suggestion: At 18C to accompany red meats, game and mature cheese.
