Carmen Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva Colchagua
Winery information: Pioneering, energetic, cosmopolitan, elegant, innovative and contemporary, Vina Carmen was the first producer in Chile to specialize in organic grapes. They were responsible for identifying Carmenere, which had previously been thought of as Merlot. They were among the first to produce – to acclaim – premium Chilean wines.
From the winery in the Maipo Valley, and using primary fruit from that area, as well as carefully-sited vineyards in Rapel, Casablanca and Curico, Carmen have produced a series of fruit-driven wines, stylish both in taste and look, which are stunning in their intensity and purity of their aromas.
Viticulture: The grapes were handpicked from our own vineyards in Colchagua Valley. The vineyards are managed to yield an average of 10 ton/ha.
Vinification: A 12 days cold maceration was carried out to ensure maximum retention of primary fruit aromas and colour extraction. Alcoholic fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks at 25º C with a gentle extraction programme. Total skin contact was of 32 days. Malolactic fermentation occurred naturally in tanks and barrels, 80% of the wine was aged in French oak barrels for a period of 10 months, 20% of the wine remained in tanks. After bottling, the wine aged for an additional 2 months prior to its release.
Tasting Note: Concentrated red wine with a solid core of blackcurrant, cherry and white spicy, eucalyptus and mocha flavours.Well bodied, deep and vibrant and with a long finish.
Every day serving suggestion: Ideal with roasts and steaks, hearty casseroles, stews and all kind of cheeses.
Carmen Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva is a rich mixture of blackcurrant and black berries, smooth and yet brooding with the right amount of tannins.
