Chateau Tasting Notes
PINORD, CLOS DE TORRIBAS CRIANZA
Bodegas Pinord is a family business which was founded 150 years ago. Since then, generation after generation, year after year, the wines produced by the family have been growing in prestige, the indigenous varieties have improved markedly, and the family name has become inseparably linked to the Penedes area where they are based.
The Penedes district is situated between Barcelona and Tarragona, with the mountains of Montserrat marking the border in the north and the Mediterranean in the South. The soil is varied, contrasting from chalky clay to sandstone with distinct differences in depth so that the vines may take root. The mild Mediterranean climate is ideal for growing vines, indeed there is evidence that the Romans planted vineyards here. The slightly wetter weather in the valleys means that there is non need for irrigation.
Grapes: 90% Tempranillo, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon
Vinification: The wine was slowly fermented in stainless steel before being cask aged.
Appearance: Plum red with dark ruby undertones.
Taste: An intense aroma of ripe Mediterranean fruit and vanilla from the barrel ageing. It is light on the palate, yet not lacking in body. The tannins have integrated well during the ageing process to leave a very pleasant finish.
