Clos 15 Merlot
Kevin's comments: This wine has been made from grapes from the Coll de Bou estate and matured in new oak for three months. A fresh palate with red fruits, enhanced by a touch of oak, giving spice and good depth of flavour.
Chateau Tasting Notes
PINORD, CLOS 15 MERLOT
Bodegas Pinord is a family business which was founded 150 years ago. Since then, generation after generation, year after year, the wines produced by the family have been growing in prestige, the indigenous varieties have improved markedly, and the family name has become inseparably linked to the Penedes area where they are based.
The Penedes district is situated between Barcelona and Tarragona, with the mountains of Montserrat marking the border in the north and the Mediterranean in the South. The soil is varied, contrasting from chalky clay to sandstone with distinct differences in depth so that the vines may take root. The mild Mediterranean climate is ideal for growing vines, indeed there is evidence that the Romans planted vineyards here. The slightly wetter weather in the valleys means that there is no need for irrigation.
Grapes: 100% Merlot.
Origin: Coll de Bou Estate.
Vinification: The grapes were destalked and crushed and then left to macerate on their skins for 10 days before being pressed. Once the wine was clarified, it spent three months in new oak casks before being bottled and left to mature for three further months in the bottle.
Appearance: Brilliant crimson.
Taste: A youthful bouquet of red fruits and vanilla from barrel ageing. This wine has a fresh fruity palate with vanilla overtones.
