Kevin's comments: Refreshingly clean with a crisp finish. The Special Cuvee is made in a fuller style with longer ageing on the lees.
Chateau Tasting Notes
Petit Chablis Special Cuvee Domine Jean Goulley
Chablis is separate and distinct from Burgundy, not only as a vineyard area, but also as a district. It is over a hundred kilometres from the most northerly part of the nearest, central-vineyards of Burgundy, while the vineyards of the Aube district, which produce champagne, lie only twenty-five kilometres away. Indeed, viticulturally speaking it is very closely related to champagne, and it is only because it formed part of the Duchy of Burgundy that it has always been considered a wine of that region.
Domaine Jean Goulley is a relatively new company that was formed in 1986 when Jean, already an owner of 6 hectares of vineyards, decided to quit his job in the motor trade in order to realise an old dream - to look after 'his own' vines and to make 'his own' wine. 10 years later, his son, Phillipe, joined the family company.
PETIT CHABLIS, is the principal product of the plantings on the outskirts of Chablis proper, undertaken when Chablis growers found that they were unable to keep up with international demand. The total area covers 500 hectares of vineyards.
