Chateau Tasting Notes
POUILLY FUISSE, DOMAINE NADINE FERRAND, BURGUNDY
Pouilly-Fuisse is an important wine appellation in the Maconnais district of Burgundy. This appellation is restricted to the Chardoonay grape. The richest wines are said to come from Fuisse and Solutre. There is no concept of Premier Cru vineyards in this appellation, but Pouilly-Fuisse may be followed by the name of a specific vineyard.
Domaine Ferrand is situated in the village Solutre-Pouilly in the heart of the Pouilly-Fuisse appellation of southern Burgundy. The domaine now comprises of just over 11 hectares of vineyards that have been passed down from father to son over three generations. Today the domaine is run by Madame Nadine Ferrand whose wines have been well reviewed by the Guide Hachette.
Grapes: Estate grown Chardonnay
Soil: Clay and Chalk Age of Vines: 45 years old
Vinification: The grapes are pneumatically pressed and fermentation takes place in temperature controlled tanks. 15% of the wine is aged on its lees in wooden casks where stirring of the lees takes place once a week. The wine goes through malolactic fermentation. The wine is blended and filtered. Bottling takes place twice a year in April and September.
Colour: Pale gold with silver hues.
Serve: Chilled to accompany fish in sauces, and white meats in cream sauces.
