Kevin's comments: Lees character from batonnage (stirring of the lees in barrel) with typical mineral notes on nose and palate. A refined and elegant wine with finesse and lovely balance. We had this wine for Christmas day and it was FANTASTIC. Lots of pure buttery flavours and significant weight to accompany any great meal or occasion.
Chateau Tasting Notes
Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatieres Domaine Rene Monnier
The Monnier family has built up one of the biggest private domaines in the Cote de Beaune - 45 acres of vineyards in the best crus of the Cote de Beaune and is now in the hands of the tenth generation. Great attention is paid to limiting the yields in the vineyards in order to guarantee the best possible quality of juice with the correct balance between fruit and acidity. The white wines are balanced between half new oak and half stainless steel; a typical balance of old and new aimed at wine with plenty of flavour not needing long ageing. The Rene Monnier name is well known in "three star" restaurants. Grapes: 100% Chardonnay grapes from Les Folatieres vineyards planted half way up the slope
Vinification: Part in new French oak barrels and balance in stainless steel tanks. 1/3 of the wine is aged in oak for 8 -10 months.
Colour: Clear golden
Serve: Chilled with shellfish and especially with lobster and scallops.
Taste: An elegant and generous wine with apricot and mineral notes on the nose and palate. A refined and elegant wine with a lingering finish.
