Chateau Tasting Notes
CASTELLO DI ARCANO SUPERIORE, FRIULI
"Castello di Arcano Superiore" is the brand name of wines produced by Arcania, a new company created by bringing together five of the original wine growers of the Friuli region who decided to process their grapes in one single state-of-the-art winery. All the grapes are organically grown and no animal product is used in winemaking, thus making their wines suitable for Vegans.
The five members are: The Estate of Countess Annamaria Frangipane, 10 hectares of DOC Friuli vines on the hills north of Udine. The Estate of Domenico Taverna whose 11 hectares of DOC Friuli vines nestle among the moraine hills north of Udine. The Estate of Maria Antonietta Morelli de Rossi whose 10 hectares of DOC Friuli vines are situated at Manzano, east of Udine. The estate of Francesco Deciani includes 3 hectares of vineyards in the DOC Colli Orientali area of Friuli, east of Udine and 4 hectares at Martignacco in the DOC Grave area. Finally the 6 hectare property of Licia Taverna in Faedis, an area of DOC Colli Orientali on the terraces of a splendid south-facing slope. The area is particularly suited to the highest quality wines and is where Piccolit, the most famous and exclusive Friuli wine is produced.
The objective of Arcania was to provide the more demanding consumer with a product that is both extremely wholesome and of high organic quality. In fact the wine growers who together formed this Association have been using organic growing methods for many years and are registered as organic growers under code F242 TOO0303 granted by the Istituto Mediterraneo di Certificazione in accordance with CEE Reg. 2092/91
