Domaine de Pourthie is an estate of 60 hectares, situated near Agde, a few kilometres from the Mediterranean. It is now in the hands of the fourth generation of the Pourthié family. The vineyards are located on a ridge formed during the Ice Age, where the soils are gravelly clay and limestone. The Mediterranean warmth and sea breezes combined with the terroir, help to ripen the grapes harmoniously and maximise their aromas. The winery has recently been updated with modern equipment, leading to more sophisticated methods of vinification. The wines are classically styled Languedoc wines.
Grapes: 100% Estate grown Merlot
Soil: Volcanic soil, with black ash, basaltic rocks and marine sediment
Vinification: The grapes are harvested at night, destemmed and fermented in a temperature controlled vat, with selected yeasts. The maceration lasts for 15 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is racked twice before the winter sets in, fined with egg whites and bottled.
Taste: A deep vibrant colour with sweet berry fruit on the nose and palate. A well structured wine with soft balanced tannins and a pleasantly long finish.
Serve: With cold meats, cheese or simply enjoy a glass on its own!
