Serra da Estrella Albarino
Kevin's comments: The small DO of Rias Baixas situated in Galicia in the north-west of Spain is home to the variety of Albarino, one of the most sought after white varieties in Spain. This wine has a rounded, mineral flavour with melon and citrus tones and fresh, balanced acidity. Albarino is the perfect accompaniment to fish and seafood.
Location: Under the D.O. Rías Baixas, Bodegas Couto is located in the Area of "Condado do Tea". This Area includes the right bank of the Miño River, from Salvaterra to the parish boundary Ourense.
Climate:The Condado area has an Atlantic climate, as has the rest of the D.O. Rías Baixas area, it has high rainfall and a moderate temperature between a maximum of 30º and minimum 0ºC. Freezing temperatures are only found during December and January.
Grapes: The main variety of grape is the ALBARIÑO that occupies most of the cultivated surface, but under the D.O.Rías Baixas we also have other varieties called; Caiño Blanco,Loureiro Blanco, Torrontés, Godello and mainly Treixadura.
Processing: Pre-selection and albariño grape analysis from the vineyards, selection table in the winery prior to destemming. Cold temperature maceration (10ºC) during 6-8 hours. Static settling of the juice. Pressing.
Alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel with automatic temperature control. Stabilisation of the wine, filtering through a tangential filter and bottling. Resting in the bottle for 30 days prior to distribution.
Varieties: 100% ALBARIÑO. Presentation: 0.75 L , 1.5 L , 0.375 L. Production: 100.000 BOTTLES. Drinking Temperature: 10-12ºC
Tasting: A pale yellow wine with green reflections and steely shades of great transparency. Wise craftmanship and care in the vineyard has produced this wine´s surprisingly intense, aromatic richness with hints of apricot and pear and ripe exotic fruits, complemented by a lemon-lime vibrancy, all perfectly blended together with is subtle flowery scent.
In the mouth Serra da Estrela shows vegetable notes and a fresh acidity. Persistent.
