MICHEL TORINO SHIRAZ This partly owned family company, has recently embarked on a serious investment programme at the winery and has also planted 1,500 hectares of vineyards. The bodega is situated in the foothills of the Andes in the Cafayate region around Salta in Northwest Argentina in one of the most scenic regions of this country. The vineyards are planted at 1,700 metres making them the highest commercial sites in the world. Cool climate plays a key part with great variations between night and day time temperatures, slowing down the ripening cycle and ensuring the development of good varietal character. The hallmark of Salta red wines is the great intensity of colour while the white wines, Torrontes in particular, are fresh and appealing. Michel Torino is well recognised on the international market and is renowned for its excellent wine quality, elegant label design and premium presentation. COLECCION SHIRAZ Grape Variety (%): 100% Shiraz Vinification: The grapes were manually harvested and selected in the vineyard according to ripeness level. Cold Maceration followed to preserve the fruit flavour of Syrah. This was further helped by the proximity of the vineyards to the winery, thereby allowing the grapes to be crushed minutes after being harvested in order to preserve their freshness. Oak contribution is subtle, with a short contact period of approximately 5 months. Colour: Vivid and intense ruby red with dark purple edges. Tasting Notes: A very well balanced wine with subtle notes of red fruits and spices. First tasting is highlighted by well-structured round tannins. Rich fruity flavours combine with notes of oak. A long pleasant finish consistent with the fruity and spicy aromas. Serve: At 16-18°C. Ideal with grilled meats, spicy meat dishes and stews. Cellaring Potential: Optimum ageing is achieved within 4 years of bottling.
