Saint Clair Pioneer Block 18 Sauvignon Blanc 2012
Proudly displaying it’s unique label, this wine is one of a rigorously tested boutique range. If the wine isn’t up to the high standards of the Saint Clair vineyard, it doesn’t make it into the block range that year. Situated in lower Wairau, Blenheim, this block was carefully selected to grow the fruit this wine is made from.
Vineyard 18 takes it’s time ripening the fruit and, basking in the cool breeze from the ocean, the intensity of the flavour is retained. A particularly deep soiled, fertile and free draining site this block was once the home of the Snap Apple.
Directly after harvesting the fruit was transported to the winery and pressed off immediately to minimise skin contact and juice deterioration. After settling, the juice from each batch was fermented using a variety of selected yeast in 100 per cent stainless steel at cool temperatures to retain fruit flavour and freshness. After ferment the wine was stabilised and prepared for bottling. This batch was selected as a Pioneer Block wine due to its power and intensity of flavour.
The fruit was sourced from the "Snap Block" single vineyard in the lower Wairau. The vineyard was originally an apple orchard growing "Snap" apples.
Intensely concentrated with fresh passionfruit and blackcurrant combined with a salty minerality.
