Zinfandel

A selection of wines made using the Zinfandel grape variety.

This grape is native to the USA and it's closest relative is Primitivo from the Puglia region of Italy.

Zinfandel achieves superb flavours of cracked black pepper and raspberry and it is often lighter in colour and a mid tannin style of red wine. In the same way that it's Italian cousin, Primitivo achieves high levels of alcohol Zinfandel also benefits from this ability.

In America Zinfandel is used mostly in making Rosé or Zinfandel Blush wines which dominate the wines producting in this country. These wines are often low in alcohol and high is residual sugar making them quite sweet and having a bubble gum characteristic. The reds are much fuller in flavour and superb with tomato based dishes.
