Domaine Rene Monnier Burgundy wines

Domaine Rene Monnier was founded in 1723 and the Monnier Family has built up one of the biggest private domains in the Cote du Beaune - 18 hectares of vineyards in the best Cru’s. 

It is now in the hands of the tenth generation of this remarkable family. All the wines are carefully and skilfully made by Xavier Monnot.

The white wines are fresh and stylish often avoiding the unnecessary excessive use of oak. The reds and the epitome of fine Burgundy, showing integrated oak and time but fine tannins on the finish. This demonstrates the balanced silky style of the wines of this great house.

Great attention is paid to limiting the yields in the vineyards. This guarantees the best possible quality of juice, with the correct balance between fruit and acidity. Rene Monnier's wines are well known in three Michelin starred restaurants as well as many of the best gastropubs.

Some of the best bargains from this estate are the delimited Mersault known as the Rene Monnier Bourgogne Chardonnay. This wine uses the overspill of fruit from their Mersault but they age it slightly differently in oak and it uses the slightly lesser fruit. The result is a Mersault at a fraction of the price of normal Mersault.

The same applies to the Rene Monnier Bourgogne Pinot Noir where the excess fruit used for their Beaune 1er cru is used to produce this outstanding value red Burgundy.

This estate specialise in Mersault and Puligny Montrachet in their white selections. The entry level white is the previously mentioned Bourgogne Chardonnay. 

The Mersault range starts with the Domaine Rene Monnier Mersault Le Limouzin and end with the Rene Monnier Mersault 1er Cru Les Charmes

The reds have a slightly greater range in the UK and start with the Bourgogne Pinot Noir. Then the stellar line up consists of the Domaine Rene Monnier Beaune 1er cry Toussaints, the Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chenes and finishes with the Pommard Les Vignots.

Any of these superb wines would be a superb addition to any restaurant wine list or private wine cellar. All of the wines will keep for many years if you wish to watch them develop
