Easthope wines

A selection of wines from Easthope winery who make the lovely Gatecrasher Sauvignon Blanc.

We first met Rod Easthope when he was tasked with re-energising Rustenberg in South africa. From there, he returned home to his native New Zealand where he worked as Senior Winemaker for Craggy Range. He is now fully occupied in his own family project. Rod works with his wife Emma, a respected viticulturalist. Concerned that New Zealand was perceived as only producing one type of wine (Sauvignon), they decided to make a real statement with their wines.

The wines are all made in the vineyard, with very strict yield control. The Sauvignon is hand-picked and whole cluster pressed. The wine is then made oxidatively and fermented in old barrique with natural yeasts. It ages on the lees and is not fined and only lightly filtered. The resulting wine is closer in style to a great white Burgundy or white Graves. It must be tasted.
