Berton Vineyards The White Viognier 2015

The White Viognier or Metal Label White Viognier as it's often called is one of the fabulous range of Metal Label wines from Bob Berton. This is a rich, fragrant wine with aromas of apricot, orange blossom and tropical fruit. It has fresh flavours of citrus zest while tropical fruits fill the palate and linger to create a long finish. The White Viognier is a delightful blend of various grapes from the region but the dominant grape is Viognier which gives the structure and character that you expect from Berton Wines.

Established by Bob and Cherie Berton in May 1996 with 75 acres of land at 450m above sea level on gently rolling hills in a sub-region of Eden Valley in South Australia. The superb Reserve Shiraz and Reserve Chardonnay wines are still sourced from this plot. In 2007 Bob purchased the Yenda winery in the heart of the Riverina. This state of the art facility has the capacity to process 10,000 tonnes, and allows Berton Vineyards to produce value for money wines which sit alongside his premium single vineyard offerings.

Vinification
The grapes were cool night harvested, and then transported across the hay plains to our Yenda winery. The grapes were de-stemmed and crushed, pressed and cold settled, before being racked off lees and inoculated with specially selected yeast strains. The ferments were carried out seperately in stainless steel tanks at a constant cool temperature of 13 degrees. After ferment the wins were then immediately racked off yeast lees and filtered, stored in stainless steel tanks ready for blending. The Chardonnay has had a little oak treatment.

Viticulture
All vines have been spur pruned. Vine age is varied. Vines are planted roughly 1.8m apart with 3.6m between the rows to allow machinery access. The trellis system is generally a single wire cordon.

Tasting Note
The White Viognier has peachy fruit typical of this variety with a creamy and smooth texture while still packing structure and power.

Everyday Serving Suggestion
The White Viognier Metal Label is perfect with good friends over a plate of gourmet fish and chips or creamy pasta dishes or simply anytime.
