Cantina Cervico La Masselina Vino delle Anfore Trebbiano Rubicone 2010

Winery Information:
Based in Emilia Romagna, Gruppo Cevico is the second biggest Italian wine producer, representing 18 wineries and with over 6,700 hectares under vine. Until four years, it was a shareholder of GIV and is Italy's fastest-growing wine company. This is one of the most impressive companies we have ever been to. As well as the benefits of size, Cevico offer a myriad of small estates producing a bewildering array of wines, from both established and lesser-known appelations. LA MASSELINA ESTATE of 12 hectares stands on a idge of hills out over the plain between Imola and Faenza, upstream from Castelbolognese. At the crossroads of historic, hunan and climatic factors, La Masselina creates a perfect fusion of the best terroirs in Romagna producing high quality wines. The agri-environmental features, combined with painstaking vineyard management, allows for an authentic terroir. The vineyards are around 150 meters agove sea level. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand, tinto crates, taking advatage of the coolest time of day.

Viticulture:
Double arch

Soil:
Medium texture with clay veins. Yield: 6,000kg per hectare. Green harvest is carried out in order to reduce yields

Vinification:
Trebbiano grapes from a 5 hectare vineyard whose vines are 40 years old. The grapes are hand-harvested into crates during the 3rd decade of October. The grapes are then destemmed and crushed by hand. The alcoholic and malolactic fermentation with skin contact lasts 40-60 days and takes place in small terracotta amphorae, produced in the town of Faenza. The skins are then removed and the wine is then racked back in to the amphora. In the springtime following the vintage the wine is racked into 10HL oak casks for 12 months ageing. The wine is bottled and ages for a minimum of 5 months before being released for sale.

Tasting Note:
Complex, layeed with hints of flowers, yellow fruit, honey and citrus on the nose, In the mouth the wine is weighty, fleshy rich and complex with a lingering finish. Only 2000 bottles produced in the best vintages.

Every day serving suggestion:
Ideal throughout the meal or on its own as a meditation wine. An ideal accompaniment to shellfish, tasty white and red meat dishes, and mature cheese.
