Carmen Carmenére Gran Reserva 2014

The Carmen Carmenere Gran Reserva is an intensely flavoured and smooth wine showing typical chocolate and spice notes with ripe red fruit flavours. This Carmenere pairs wonderfully with a variety of dishes and if you like full bodied red wine it can be delicious when drunk on it's own due to it's intense velvety texture and mouth feel.

Pioneering, energetic, cosmopolitan, elegant, innovative and contemporary, Vina Carmen was the first producer in Chile to specialize in organic grapes. They were responsible for identifying Carmenére, which had previously been thought of as Merlot. They were among the first to produce – to acclaim premium Chilean wines. From the winery in the Maipo Valley, and using primary fruit from that area, as well as carefully-sited vineyards in Rapel, Casablanca and Curico, Carmen have produced a series of fruit-driven wines, stylish both in taste and look, which are stunning in their intensity and purity of their aromas.

Vinification
The grapes were carefully hand selected before crushing, A period of cold maceration (4- 5C) for 7 days was used to ensure maximum retention of primary fruit flavours and colour extraction. Alcoholic fermentation was carried out in stainless steel tanks at 28 - 29C. The total maceration period was of 40 days. The wine was aged in French oak barrels for 10 months. After bottling, the wine aged in cellar for additional 2 months prior to its release.

Viticulture
The grapes were hand-harvested from our vineyards in the Apalta hills in the Colchagua Valley.

Tasting Note
The Carmen Carmenére Gran Reserva has an intense red fruit character on the nose with hints of toasted tobacco, cedar and oak. Full bodied with lovely balance and a deep, velvety texture with beautiful length.

Everyday Serving Suggestion
Serve this wine with Filet Mignon, roast prime rib, roast duck, rabbit, lamb cutlets, meatballs, ratatouille, kebab, rich pasta dishes and cheeses such as Gruyère, Manchego, Parmesan, Cantal, Cheddar.
