Castello dei Pomino Pinot Nero 2013.

The Castello dei Pomino Pinot Nero is from one of the smallest DOC regions in Italy (there is only 1 other producer!) and the quality is outstanding. This delicious red wine is superb when served with pizza, pasta and casseroles.

A Florentine family with thirty generations dedicated to the production of great wines across six Tuscan estates. The Frescobaldi style brings together tradition and innovation. With the goal of being the most prestigious Tuscan wine producer, Frescobaldi firmly believes in respecting the local land while focusing on the highest quality grapes for its wines. The Frescobaldis own over 1,000 hectares of vineyards, all located in excellent areas for the production of fine wines. Directly managed by its family members, the Frescobaldi name is deeply connected with the history of art, culture, trade, finance and wine in Italy.

Vineyard

Pomino DOC is the only Pinot Nero DOC wine made in Tuscany. The vineyard is located at Castello di Pomino, located in the Apennine mountains to the east of Florence set in a charming landscape of chestnut and fir trees. The vineyards, placed at the highest altitudes in Tuscany at 737 metres above sea level, enjoy a fresh and well ventilated microclimate. In 1855 grape varieties that were unusual at the time were introduced - such as Pinot Nero. After 150 years, this variety has found its ideal habitat and produces wine of extraordinary finesse, elegance and minerality.

Winemaking

The grapes were hand harvested and then macerated on the skins for 23 days. Immediately after the alcoholic fermentation, the malolactic fermentation took place. The wine was then aged for 12 months in French oak barriques of varying ages, followed by a further four months in bottle prior to release.

Tasting Note

A wine of surpassing elegance, with a delicate fragrance of dark cherry and wild strawberry interwoven with floral notes of sweet violets. This is a vibrant wine, with refined, silky tannins and a smooth, complex palate of leather and toasty notes of chocolate and coffee. A flavourful and persistent finish.

Serving Suggestion

Serve with pastas with meat sauces, rich stews and casseroles.
