Chablis ler Cru 'Cote de Lecher' 2016

The Moutard family has been making wine since 1642. Since then, they have keenly explored the potential of different terroirs and maintained traditions whilst also experimenting with different grape varieties.

Vineyard

The vines are grown on a steep and particularly sunny slope of the vineyard. Planted in Kimmeridgian soil, containing high levels of mineral-rich clay and essential marine fossils, the lime rich soils are well-known for imparting minerality to the wine. The vineyard is ploughed and fertilised using preparations from animal and plant origins during the winter months. A green harvest takes place at the end of May, which enhances the quality of the grapes. The harvest takes place in September.

Winemaking

The grapes were gently pressed in a gravity filled pneumatic press. The juice was then fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks in order to preserve the freshness and integrity of the Chardonnay characteristics. Maturation took place in oak, 25% of which was new. Malolactic fermentation, clarification and filtration were all carefully undertaken prior to bottling.

Tasting Note

A fine and pure example of a 1er Cru Chablis, with hints of grapefruit, lime and floral notes of orange blossom on the nose, wonderful minerality on the palate which flows through to a long and stylish finish.
