Collavini Broy Bianco 2015

The Collio region, a strip of hills against the Slovenian border, was only reunited with Italy after The First World War. This region is reputed to have one of Europe's most privileged micro-climates for white wines which dominate the region, while the red wines are also noted for their appeal. Collio wines are rather more intense than the wines from Friuli and have impressive richness and length. Founded by Eugenio Collavini in 1896, this family owned house is now run by Manlio Collavini together with his three sons. Located in Udine, they were among the first to vinify Ribolla Gialla (an ancient local variety) and to implement new winemaking technologies. Collavini prides itself on its clean, modern style wines while still retaining the traditions and grape varieties native to this area. Collavini's Broy is a multiple Tre Bicchieri winner and is recognised as one of Italy's top white wines.

Vinification
The grapes are picked from overripe bunches and then laid on drying trays. The Friulano and the Chardonnay berries are dried at a temperature of 8 to 10C in a modern drying room, where they loose 15 to 20% of their water content and the sugar in the grapes is concentrated. The sauvignon is pressed separately after brief skin contact and chilled to block fermentation. The 3 musts are blended and fermented in steel tanks. Maturation on fine lees until the summer following the harvest. The wine saw no wood ageing

Viticulture
Single and double Guyot.

Tasting Note
Made from a blend of Chardonnay, Friulano and Sauvignon. Tropical aroma with sweet hints of acacia. Lovely harmonious balance on the palate with fresh fruit flavours and a long and consistent finish. A wine of great finesse.

Everyday Serving Suggestion
Collavini Broy Bianco is best served with Haute cuisine, fish whether oven baked or served in sauce, veloutes, risottos with truffle and medium-mature cheeses.
