Domaine de la Grange Vougeon Brouilly 2014.

The Domaine de la Grange Brouilly is a delightful red wine to drink either with food or on it's own. This fresh and slightly spicy red wine is soft and elegent in tannins with a long, lingering finish. Serve this lovely Beaujolais with duck or game dishes.

The Domaine de la Grange Vougeon is owned by a family of winegrowers that spans over three generations. Today, Roger Gerin and his son Sylvain oversee the vines and their artisan Domaine with a great passion and respect for the terroir of Brouilly.

Vintage

The 2014 vintage opened for the Beaujolais Villages on the 12th of September. After uncertain summerforecasts, some extraordinary weather at the end of August provided ideal conditions for the grapes to reach optimal ripeness. Sun and wind during the day, with average daily temperatures of 25°C and cooler nights, this winning combination produced high quality, healthy and juicy grapes with good aromatic levels.

Vineyard

The vines are grown at an average of 250 metres above sea level and have an average age of 65 years. The vineyard exposure is south to southeasterly, maximising the sun's potential influence. The mostly granitic soils are formed over a large rock plateau, which helps to impart structure to the final wine. Conventional farming methods are used in the vineyard and the harvest takes place by hand. The grapes are carefully sorted before arriving at the cellars.

Winemaking

Traditional Beaujolais methods were used during the production of this wine. Fermentation took place in stainless steel vats under carefully monitored temperature conditions in order to maintain the highest integrity and structure of the wine. Fermentation lasted for approximately seven days in tank, followed by a pneumatic pressing.

Tasting Note

A typically light bodied Beaujolais showing aromas of blackcurrants and red cherries, which are echoed on the palate, with a hint of spice and a fresh, lingering finish.

Serving Suggestion

Ideal with game, duck fillet with a peppercorn sauce, coq au vin and blue cheese.
