Michel Torino Don David Reserve Torrontes 2014

Named for the founder of the Bodega El Esteco estate, David Michel, the Don David range are the vineyards flagship. The wine itself tastes like herbs and grapefruit and with it’s beautiful colour is a great alternative to a Sauvignon Blanc. Easily enjoyed on a warm summers evening with friends or something more intimate. A clean, fruity tasting wine, with aromas of roses and spring flowers, this wine works well with Spicy Mexican foods and Creamy Chicken Sauces, and is a wine to drink rather than store.

Michel Torino's vineyards in Salta, Cafayate, are among the highest in the world; 1,700m above sea level, basking in splendid isolation surrounded by desert and breathtaking mountain scenery. The vines get 350 days of sunshine, but at this altitude there is a consistent breeze to cool things down. This sunny but cool climate, combined with the rocky and sandy soil is an ideal environment for growing grapes. From the 2006 vintage, their vineyards have been certified as totally organic, but Michel Torino chooses only to bottle four wines as organic. Exceptional wines from a unique part of the world.

Vinification
The grapes are handharvested and put into small clusters. The first juice pressed from the grapes is used. 30% is cold macerated, 60% is fermented normally and 10% is aged in small American barrels for 3 months. The last 10% undergoes malolactic fermentation using selected yeasts.

Viticulture
The grapes are picked from vines that are over 20 years old. They grow in poor, rocky soils where the climate is dry and sunny. Irrigation is carried out naturally using the water from the Andes.

Tasting Note
Don David Torrontes is a wondeful white wine from Argentina. The special micro-climate in the Cafayate Valley is ideally suited to this variety where it develops concentrated aromas and flavours, which build from start to finish. An intriguing aroma of rose water and delicate fruit flavours of grapefruit and honey make this is a very elegant wine.

Everyday Serving Suggestion
Don David Torrontes Reserve Michel Torino is best served chilled as an aperitif or to accompany shellfish, chicken in creamy sauces and spicy food such as Mexican and Indian.
