Dona Paula Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2016

The Estate Sauvignon Blanc from Dona Paula is a delightful white wine from the Mendoza Region of Argentina. Despite vintage issues with rain Dona Paula have excelled yet again in producing a lovely Sauvignon Blanc which pays tribute to the unique terrior of this region. This white wine is delightful when served with creamy chicken dishes and is also a great wine to drink on it's own.

Producer Note

Doña Paula is a leading, modern winery at the forefront of exploring and investing in new, high quality wine regions in Argentina. First established in 1997, they own all of their vineyards covering 700 hectares. These vineyard sites are located in the best sub-regions within Mendoza including Ugarteche, Altamira, Gualtallary and Tupungato. They practice sustainable methods in the vineyards, maximising the true expression of terroir.

Their continuous innovation in terms of vineyard management ensures top quality wines from one year to the next.

Vintage

2015 was a warm and wet vintage, unusual for this normally dry climate. Rain was a major factor during the harvest and so the harvest timing became crucial. Many were brought in early, to maintain the quality of the fruit.

Vineyard

At Doña Paula, the vineyards have always been managed using sustainable agriculture practices. The combination of loamy, sandy, rocky and well drained soils with an exhaustive selection of the best French clones, result in this premium example of Sauvignon Blanc. The yield is eight tonnes per hectare.

Winemaking

The grapes are hand-picked during the first week of March. Destemming and pressing are gently carried out, followed by pellicular maceration during which the skins imbue the must with their varietal characteristics.

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at low temperatures of between 12°C to 15°C in order to preserve the primary aromas.

TastingNote

Intense aromas of wild mint, grapefruit and white currant leap out of the glass,a fresh, concentrated and well balanced Sauvignon with a persistant finish.

Serving Suggestion

Serve chilled as an aperitif, or the perfect match for chicken with light creamy sauces, salads, seafood, scallops and oysters
