Fox Gordon Abby Viognier 2015.

The Abby Viognier is a classic example of this wonderful white wine grape variety. Filled to the brim with wonderful stone fruit characteristics and made without any addition of oak.

“There are no surprises with our wines. You know exactly what you’re getting - top quality Barossa and Adelaide Hills reds and whites,” says Fox Gordon’s winemaker Tash Mooney. And she’s spot on. These are contemporary and premium wines which are all made using the Fox Gordon philosophy of low input and low yield to give maximum flavour and preserve the inherent qualities of fruit and site. “If the fruit speaks for itself, the winemaker’s job is much simpler,” says Tash.

Vineyard

A single vineyard in the Mount Crawford Forest with stoney soils which keep yields low and consistent. Vines are 10 years old and on a double cordon system to keep yields more balanced. Viognier has a tendency to ripen unevenly so picking dates are crucial to avoid excess acidity or heavy weighty textures.

Winemaking

Pressing of the grape was minimal to keep the acid tight. Lots of lees work took place before and after fermentation to encourage palate density and mid palate depth. The wine spent four months on lees and yeastis wild, adding more complexity to the final wine.

Tasting Note

Classic Viognier nose with ripe apricots and pears that follow through on to the palate. Unoaked, the texture islight and lifted and it is balanced with beautifully clean acidity.

Serving Suggestion

This is a stunning match with middle eastern influenced salads, but also a classic with roast pork
