Fox Gordon; Princess Fiano 2016
The Fox Gordon Princess Fiano is a suprememly complex white wine. This Faino deisplays masses of stone fruit and herbal charactyers and it's texture in the mouth is a true delight. If you ever wanted a wine to serve with creamy pasta dishes or Paella then this is an excellent choice.
“There are no surprises with our wines. You know exactly what you’re getting - top quality Barossa and Adelaide Hills reds and whites,” says Fox Gordon’s winemaker Tash Mooney. And she’s spot on. These are contemporary and premium wines which are all made using the Fox Gordon philosophy of low input and low yield to give maximum flavour and preserve the inherent qualities of fruit and site. “If the fruit speaks for itself, the winemaker’s job is much simpler,” says Tash.
Vineyard
The vines are now 15 years old. Kersbrook is on Northern end of the Adelaide Hills where the climate is warmer and the rainfall less than other areas of the Hills. The vineyard is at about 480 metres above sea level and has some very high sloped areas with the Fiano being on a Eastern aspect. The soil is shallow with a lot of ironstone through the profile.
Winemaking
Minimal winemaking intervention and a cool fermentation preserved the varietal characters of Fiano. After it was pressed to tank it spent a week being worked on its lees. Fermentation lasted for seven days and then it was bottled immediately.
Tasting Note
Incredibly complex stone fruit aromas with delicate herbal undertones. On the palate the texture is unforgettable and the complexity continues. Almonds, peaches and greenage are all present with a lasting long spicy and uplifting finish.
