Fratelli Sette 2012 Red Wine from India

The Sette red wine from Fratelli Wines has rich flavours of plum and blackberry, accented with notes of spice and vanilla and a long, smooth finish.

Producer Note - Fratelli means ‘brothers’ in Italian and three sets of brothers from Italy and India have combined their passion and desire to produce wines made in India, following Italian traditions. Their passion, love and hard work have resulted in the creation of Fratelli Wines, a modern winery located in Akluj in the Solapur district. The winery holds 58 tanks of varying capacities in which they make the wines from their own estate. The estate vineyards cover 97 hectares, across three different sites at Motewadi, Garwad and Nimgaon. The vineyards have been planted with 13 different grape varieties imported from France. The viticultural and winemaking expertise has been provided by Piero Masi, a master winemaker from Tuscany and creator of the famous 'Chianti Classico Casa Sola'. The rest of the world is now invited to taste the resulting wines.

Vineyard - The Cabernet Sauvignon was grown in Plot B of Motewadi, Akluj. The rocky soil is derived of mother rock, with no organic soil and excellent drainage. The Sangiovese is from the central lines of Plot C of Garwar, Akluj, where the soil is of an average depth and 15% clay with no presence of sand. Fratelli was attracted to Akluj due to its dry, mineral and organically poor soil.

Winemaking - The two varieties were vinified separately using traditional methods and then aged in French oak barrels for 14 months, imparting complexity and oak spice to the final blend.

Tasting Note - This blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon displays supple ripe flavours of plum and blackberry, accented with notes of spice and vanilla, with hints of blackcurrant and cherry. Exquisitely balanced, this blend has a lush, round mouthfeel and a long, lingering finish.

Serving Suggestion - A wonderful pairing for a juicy pan-fried steak or a herbed rack of lamb with braised fennel.
