Gerard Bertrand Terroir AOP Saint Chinian 2014

Winery Information:
One of the most dynamic and brilliant winemakers from the South of France, where he owns no less than seven estates among the most prestigious terroirs of Languedoc Roussillon, Gérard Bertrand was named in 2012 as the ""European Winery of the Year"" by Wine Enthusiast and ""Red Wine Maker of the Year"" by the IWC.

Viticulture:
Saint-Chinian's viticultural traditions date back to the Middle Ages. These vineyards are ideally suited on elevated south facing slopes dominated by a schist based soil. Average yield: 40 h/ha

Soil:
Schist based soil.

Vinification:
The entire crop is selectively hand picked, parcel by parcel and then transferred back to the winery where each of the varietals undergoes a traditional maceration for approximately 3 weeks. Once complete, the finest cuvees are selected for blending and then transferred into Bordeaux oak barrels for eight months. The wine is lightly fined just before bottling.

Tasting Note:
Deep red with violet glints. On the nose the wine gives a rich bouquet of forest fruits and garrigue, thyme, sage and rosemary. The palate is soft and round with soft tannins neatly framing the fruit. The finish is long and mineral fresh.

Every day serving suggestion:
Serve at 18C with roast meats, rustic pasta dishes and mature cheeses.
