Gerard Bertrand Vieille Capitelle Merlot 2012

Winery Information:
One of the most dynamic and brilliant winemakers from the South of France, where he owns no less than seven estates among the most prestigious terroirs of Languedoc Roussillon, Gérard Bertrand was named in 2012 as the ""European Winery of the Year"" by Wine Enthusiast and ""Red Wine Maker of the Year"" by the IWC.

Viticulture:
Light, fresh, fruity and easy drinking, these single grape variety wines result from the selection of premium grapes from the best vineyards and combine traditional and modern winemaking skills for immediate enjoyment. Average yield for merlot: 55h/ha

Soil:
clay limestone

Vinification:
The grapes are hand-harvested once they have reached perfect maturity, to express the best potential of the grape variety. Destemmed, the bunches are macerated in the traditional way for 10 to 15 days. After the malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in 225 litre French oak barrels for 8 months. The wine is then gently fined and bottled, followed by further bottle-ageing prior to release.

Tasting Note:
Intense deep ruby with light purple tints. The powerful nose is packed with red and black fruit scents, particularly blackcurrants and wild strawberries, with some notes of spices and aromatic plants. Soft and aromatic, the palate is in harmony with the aromas on the nose. Smooth and elegant, well-structured and powerful, it is very long on the finish.

Every day serving suggestion:
Enjoy at 18 C with grilled or barbequed red meats
