Lake Breeze Wines Cabernet Sauvignon 2013

The Lake Breeze Cabernet Sauvignon is the ultimate expression of Australian Cabernet Sauvignon. Kept in oak casks for 20 months the oak characteristics are restrained and wonderful.

Lake Breeze winemaker Greg Follett is part of the 4th generation of Folletts to work on the family property, which has been in the grape growing business in Langhorne Creek for 120 years. Only in the past 25 years have they been making wine, and have rapidly built an enviable reputation for consistently producing outstanding wines. Greg uses exclusively old vine fruit (and the best 30 per cent of that) resulting in wines that are concentrated and rich. He takes a ‘hands on’ approach, responsible for all facets of the business, from fruit selection through to sales and marketing.

Vineyard

The average of the vines is 40 years. All vines are on their own roots and the soils are generally alluvial sandyloam, with some over a clay base. Fruit selection is paramount, only the best blocks are retained for the Lake Breeze label and only the best rows of these blocks on a lot of occasions.

Winemaking

Small open static tanks were used for a fermentation on the skins, lasting between seven to 12 days. The wine was then pressed straight to oak barriques to complete fermentation followed by 20 months maturation in these barrels. The barriques were 100% French oak, of which 60% were new. The wine is not fined or filtered, prior to bottling.

Tasting Note

Definitive Australian Cabernet, rich pure notes of ripe blackcurrants and soft black liquorice are set against Cabernet's hallmark - abundant dusty yet fine tannins. A very classic style.
