Larry Cherubino The Riddler Ad Hoc Brut Sparkling NV.

Larry Cherubino has excelled himself with The Riddler his superb sparkling wine. This is a tropical explosion of flavours with a delightful fizz in the mouth that isn't too overtpowering.

Named 'Winery of the Year' in James Halliday's 2011 Wine Companion, Larry Cherubino wants his wines to be distinctive and to speak clearly of their variety and vineyard site. He believes in spending time in the vineyard, in paying attention to canopy and water management, and most importantly, picking at the right time with minimal interference in the winery. From delicate whites to big reds his wines have class and finesse. The prodigious Australian producer also makes wine under the Laissez Faire name. These are a range of natural wines, and they are the ultimate expression of natural winemaking made in small batches from hand-harvested grapes.

Vintage

The lower south west and the Great Southern received their winter rainfall well below average, also with winds and November rains disrupting flowering - a much lower yield was seen. Warm January with mild and dry conditions saw fruit that ripened excellently through March, smaller volumes but very high quality white wine grapes in the region.

Tasting Note

A slightly pink white sparkling wine with a fruity nose and a persistent, fine bead. The palate is youthful yet complex, with grapefruit, sherbert and restrained yeast flavours. Finishes long and dry.

Serving Suggestion

Pear, spinach and blue cheese salad.

Grape

Chardonnay 51%, Pinot Noir 49%

Country

Australia. Region: Western Australia.

Alcohol: 12%. Dry/Sweet value: 2 (1 is dry, 7 is very sweet). Residual Sugar: 4.2. Contains Sulphites: Yes. Vegetarian/Vegan: No/No. Milk/Eggs: No/No. Organic/Biodynamic No/No.
