Piattelli Cabernet Sauvignon 2014.

Piattelli Cabernet Sauvignon is a richly flavoured red wine with spectacular hints of blackberry and delightful black pepper hints. It's medium in terms of the spice characters and it's soft tannins make it a gerat red wine to enjoy with hearty red meat dishes.

Located in the foothills of the Andes Mountains, lie the Piattelli Vineyards. The century old vines are irrigated by the pure waters melting from their snow crested peaks, a significant aspect in making their wines exquisite. At Piattelli Vineyards, they take great pride in crafting wines with a sense of place, as each region has distinct terroirs and climates. Mendoza and Cafayate are two of the best grape growing regions in Argentina and they wanted to show case both. Led by head winemaker Valeria Antolin, the wines are produced through her passionate pursuit of perfection. Their gravity fed winery in Cafayate is one of the only gravity-flow vinification systems in Argentina, honouring their commitment to sustainable practices. Piattelli Vineyards practises sustainable farming and their Mendoza vineyards are USDA certified Organic. Their grapes are cultivated with arid-clean air, crystal-clear water and nutrient-rich soil and their award winning wines are created with wisdom, precision and love.

Vineyard

The idyllic characteristics of this environment bring these wines to perfection much earlier than wines made from grapes grown in regions with shorter seasons. The vineyards are located in the high Andes surrounding Salta, at an elevation of 3,937 feet. Cultivated with arid clean air, crystal clear water, and nutrient rich soil, the grapes are produced from 12 year old vines. The vines are managed so they yield just 5.5 pounds of fruit per vine and 4.45 tonnes per acre.

Winemaking

The grapes were hand picked and manually sorted. Grapes underwent three days of cold maceration before fermentation in small, 25,000-litre stainless steel tanks. The wine was aged for eight months in small, second use French-oak barrels. Bottle ageing for an additional six months.

Tasting Note

A bold, distinguished wine with a deep red hue. It has an enticing bouquet of blackberry and black pepper, whichunfolds across the palate, lingering with a moderate tannin pull and a hint of spice on the finish.

Serving Suggestion

Pairs beautifully with red meats in rich, full flavoured sauces or a hearty mushroom based stew.
