Salceto Rosso 2015

The Salceto Rooso is a rich and concentrated red wine with overripe dark fruits interwoven with a hint of spice and a warm and full finish.

Producer Note - Salceto is a dynamic partnership between Cantine Monrubio and Gruppo Cevico, which is being headed up by one of Italy’s greatest winemakers Riccardo Cottarella. Vintage 2015 was characterised by hot, dry weather throughout the harvest period, which lowered disease pressure and resulted in healthy grapes with excellent phenolic maturity. The wines are rich and show pronounced varietal typicity

Vineyard - Umbria is a lush region of rolling hills located in central Italy. The climate is generally continental. The warm days are tempered by cool nights which promote a long ripening period, concentrating the flavours in the berries while retaining refreshing acidity. The soils are made up of tufaceous rocks with limestone. The vines are planted at a density of 4,000 to 5,000 vines per hectare and are trained on a spurred cordon system. Integrated pest management principles are followed in the cultivation of the vineyard.

Winemaking - The Merlot and Sangiovese grapes were picked separately, crushed and cold macerated for a period of 48 hours. Fermentation lasted for 12 days with daily pumpovers to extract colour and flavour from the skins. The wine underwent malolactic fermentation in concrete tanks, before being aged for six months in large oak vats.

Tasting Note - A rich and concentrated wine, with ripe dark fruits interwoven with a hint of spice. Full bodied with a smooth texture, firm tannins and a long, persistent finish.

Serving Suggestion - Game, grilled or roasted meat.
