Santo Isidro De Pegoes Adega de Pegões Moscatel de Setubal NV

Adega de Pegões Moscatel de Setubal is a delightful dessert wine from Santo Isidro de Pegões. What makes it stand out from the crowd of other dessert wines is it's outstanding value. This wine comes in 750ml bottles as oppoised to almost all other dessert wines that only come in 375 ml bottles. It has a distinct honey and almost almond aroma and falvour and is superb with mixed cheeses or the majority of desserts. It is highly renowned in Portugal and is now being discovered throughout Europe. The Moscatel de Setubal can bve enjoyed happily now but will keep for many years if you want to see how it matures and develops in the bottle.

Vineyard Information

Santo Isidro de Pegões is one of the most forward thinking co-operatives in Portugal and their chief winemaker, Jaime Quendera, skillfully blends the warm native varities of Castelao, Tourgia Nacional and Trincadeira with international grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah to produce wines bursting with flavour. Founded in 1958 in the small village of Pegoes the winery has access to a total of 1,100 hectares owned by 140 winegrowers. It boasts the most up to date equipment including over 90 stainless steel vats and 1,600 oak barrels. It produces a variety of wines - Terras do Sado regional wines, DOC wines and most recently the famous local dessert wine, Moscatel de Setubal. Each year all of the production is bottled and sold with 80% destined for the domestic market and 20% for export.

Vinification
Light pelicular maceration followed by alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperatures until 1060 g/dm of density. Fermentation is stopped by adding grape brandy. The wine is then aged on the lees until March the following year. It is matured in American oak barrels for 3 years.

Tasting Note
Amber in colour, with intense aromas of orange peel and honey. The wine is rich and sweet but has a refreshing acidity.

Everyday Serving Suggestion
At 14°C - 16°C with desserts or as an aperitif or digestif. The wine will age for 50 years.
