Indian red wines are made with a selection of grape varieties. The best ones come from Sula Vineyards who make Zinfandel and Shiraz as well as a Reserve Shiraz. Swiftly behind this lead is the Fratelli Wines selection of Bordeaux style wines using Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon.

This may well be a lesser known area when it comes to wine but the quality is outstanding and the wines improve with each subsequent vintage.The main wine producing area is in Maharashtra which is a four hour drive fnorth east of Mumbai. Despite being lesser known in the wine world, India produces around 13.5 million litres of wine each year! This figure is set to grow as new players emerge and wine taxation is relaxed.
