Pinot Noir

A selection of wines made using the Pinot Noir grape variety.

Pinot Noir is a light coloured red grape variety which makes soft cherry style of wine, generally Pinot Noir makes a very fine wine in the hands of a good winemaker yet it can be a "Cruel Mistress" as the great Australian winemaker Larry Cherubino refers to this grape. This is because Pinot Noir is a very difficult grape to grow well. It needs lots of attention, loads of care and demands attention at all times, a bit like a cruel mistress would!

Pinot Noir is grown with massive success in the Burgundy region of France where it produces some of the world's finest red wines. It is now being made all over the world with some of the best examples coming from Hamilton Russell in South Africa and Carmen wines in Chile.

Pinot Noir can take on farmyard characteristics depending on the terroir and country it comes from. It produces a low tannin wine which is light in colour and all Pinot's can have the barnyard and vegetal characteristics as well as the raspberry and strawberry flavours.
